Solution for third party Battery Warning Pop-up After Replacing iPhone Battery with Non-Official Parts

Date: 2025-01-30  Views: 15

Over time, an iPhone's battery deteriorates, becoming less efficient and draining quickly—sometimes requiring three charges a day! Does this mean the battery is failing? For iPhones, a battery health below 80% indicates it's time for a replacement. However, starting from the iPhone XR and newer models, replacing the battery at a non-authorized repair shop triggers a pop-up warning: "Unable to verify this iPhone has a genuine Apple battery. Battery health information is not available."

To resolve this pop-up, Apple's official service centers can run a diagnostic program, but this requires paying a high fee for an official battery replacement. What if you don’t want to spend that much but still want to eliminate the pop-up?

Today, we’ll share a method to replace the encrypted battery on an iPhone 11 Pro Max without triggering the pop-up or losing battery health display. This solution also applies to all iPhone XR and newer models.

When Should You Replace the Battery? Is Below 80% Really Necessary?

Frequent fast drainage, prolonged usage, and improper charging habits (e.g., overusing power banks or car chargers) can accelerate battery aging.

iPhones use lithium-ion batteries, which degrade after about **500 full charge cycles**. Additionally, iPhones have relatively small battery capacities, frustrating heavy users who charge 2–3 times daily—often needing a replacement within **8–9 months**.

Most importantly, smartphone batteries are consumables with a typical lifespan of **under 3 years**. Prolonged charging cycles increase the risk of swelling. For better performance, longer battery life, and safety, **replacement is necessary once maximum capacity drops to or below 80%.

How to Check Battery Health:

Go to Settings > Battery > Battery Health > Maximum Capacity to see the current health percentage.

The Non-Genuine Battery Pop-up Issue
After replacing the battery on an iPhone XR or newer model, a 15-day pop-up appears:
"Unable to verify this iPhone has a genuine Apple battery. Battery health information is not available."
After 15 days, the pop-up disappears, but the Battery Health section will show "Service."

Solution: Transfer the original battery’s protection board to the new battery.

Types of Replacement Batteries Available:
1. Official diagnostic-programmed batteries (from Apple).
2. Salvaged OEM batteries (removed from warranty-voided devices but still genuine).
3. Factory-leaked genuine batteries(available only after two years).

For DIY replacements, we recommend **OEM-salvaged or high-quality third-party batteries**.

iPhone 11 Pro Max Encrypted Battery Replacement Guide & Precautions

1. Removing the Screen

- Apply alcohol around the edges to soften the adhesive (avoid the Face ID area).
- Disconnect the battery first to prevent damage to the motherboard, Face ID, or display.
- Keep track of screw sizes and positions.

2. Removing the Battery

- The battery connector has two parts: one on the mainboard, another at the bottom.
- Disconnect the battery flex cable and remove the three battery adhesive strips(top, bottom, and right).
- If adhesive strips break, apply 99% industrial alcohol (or 95% medical alcohol) to loosen the adhesive.

3. Replacing the Battery Cell

Step 1: Remove the Protection Board
- Peel off the black sticker and remove the bracket to expose the protection board.
- Carefully cut the protection board from the old battery (avoid damaging the flex cable).

Step 2: Solder the New Cell
- Clean the protection board’s contacts and spot-weld it to the new battery cell.

Step 3: Reassemble the Protection Board
- Fold the flex cable properly and reattach the bracket and black sticker.
- Ensure proper alignment, or the battery won’t fit inside the phone.

Step 4: Test Before Final Installation
- Since the iPhone 11 Pro Max has two protection boards, test charging functionality before securing the battery.

⚠ Warning: If you’re not experienced in repairs, do not attempt this yourself!
Applicability to Other Models (iPhone XR–iPhone 12 Pro Max)
The same method works for iPhone XR–12 Pro Max, resolving the health display and pop-up issues. However, iPhone 11–12 Pro Max batteries have encrypted data—cycle count and health cannot be manually reset (unlike earlier models where third-party boards could modify parameters). Instead, calibration through charge cycles is required.

Calibration Method:
1. Drain the battery to 1%, then let it die completely.
2. Charge to 100% and leave it charging for an extra 1–2 hours.
3. Repeat this cycle multiple timesto allow the battery to recalibrate.

If the flex cable breaks during the process, the encryption chip can be transplanted to a new flex cable.

Final Notes
That’s how you replace an iPhone 11 Pro Max encrypted battery without triggering pop-ups or losing health data. Did you find this guide helpful?
